Mental Health Day 2022

The Mental Health Nursing Department of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing observed the Mental Health Day 2022 on 19th October 2022 at Capitanio High School, Mangaluru for 150 high school students. The theme of this year was ‘Make mental health and well being for all a global priority’. The program began with Invocation by the students.


The Chief Guest cum Resource Person was Dr. Ganesh Kini K, Assistant Professor Yenepoya Medical college, Deralakatte Mangaluru. He highlighted the significance of mental health among the students and also took a session on stress and De-stress among students. Sr. Leena D’Souza, the Head Mistress of the Capitanio High school was the Guest of Honour. In her address to the students, she congratulated the nursing students and the college for providing this need based priority program for the students. She emphasized the students to obtain good use of the information from this program. Dr. Larissa Martha Sams, Principal, Laxmi memorial college of nursing expressed her views on the importance of mental health among students. Mr. Shripathi Bhat S.K, Medical and Psychiatric Counsellor at Fr Muller Medical college Hospital took a session on ‘You ask and I reply’ wherein the students were given an opportunity to put forth and express their concerns with an Open up your heart and mind: A counselors helping hand session. This session gave the students a chance for maintaining anonymity and at the same time finding tips for the solution of their problems. Motivational games and deep breathing exercises were demonstrated to develop concentration.


The program ended with a feet tapping song on mental health and its significance by the Post Basic B. Sc. students. Stimulating spot games on mental health were conducted on the occasion. Prizes was awarded to the winners. Refreshments were served after the program. The program was compered by Ms. Meghashree and welcome was accorded by Sr. Savitha student organizer. The program was organized by mental health nursing department and 2nd year P. C. B. Sc. nursing students. The entire department faculty as well as the teachers of the school were present.
